JACC FIT/EC Section: Pulmonary Embolism Response Team: Additional Call Burden or a Valuable Learning Opportunity?
Cardiology fellows in training (FITs) are on the front lines of patient triage and are frequently called upon to make the initial clinical recommendations for acute pulmonary embolism. Multidisciplinary pulmonary embolism response teams (PERTs) have been developed to standardize our approach toward and management of acute pulmonary embolism. Presently, there are >150 institutions worldwide using this model of care. This paper, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, explores the benefits and drawbacks of PERT programs with a particular focus on cardiology FIT involvement.
