On the Road to 2025: A Report From the 2024 UN General Assembly
The recent United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and the World Health Assembly provided the opportunity for ACC to join forces with the global health community to advance causes related to addressing the global burden of noncommunicable disease (NCDs).
ACC held its first event at the UNGA in 2023, Enhancing the Health Workforce Through Innovation, which convened leaders from the U.S. government, large technology companies, academia, global foundations and civil society to address a looming global health workforce shortage of 10 million people by 2030. The session explored several key themes, including drivers behind the shortage and how technology and other solutions can be brought to bear to assure equitable access to care worldwide.
This year, the UNGA and World Health Assembly meetings focused on preparation for UNGA in 2025 when the global community will gather to align on priorities for addressing the global burden of NCDs for the fourth time ever. The ACC also received recognition for its leadership in developing programs to directly address cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, including the 2023 UNGA side event and the novel NCD Academy, our free online asynchronous training program for primary and frontline health professionals. Furthermore, the Saudi Ministry of Health referenced its collaboration with ACC as an example of global partnership to address cardiovascular disease in a meeting with other Health Ministries.
As we look forward to 2025 where we can drive home ACC's mission to transform cardiovascular care and improve heart health for all, the ACC is continuing its work alongside our partners, the World Heart Federation, the American Heart Association and the NCD Alliance, to continue to drive action toward decreased morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular disease and directly mitigating the impact of NCDs around the world.
