ACC and Lead Medical to Partner on Innovative Research Program For Chinese Cardiologists
In 2018, Eugene Braunwald, MD, MACC, remarked on the importance of clinician-led trials as a way to increase trial efficiency and lower cost. This requires cardiologists and their care team to have adequate resources and training to carry out such a task. A new joint research program by the ACC and Lead Medical – a leading provider of innovative workflow informatics management systems – will address this need by providing a systematic approach to designing, managing and executing clinical trials.
"Fostering the next generation of clinical scientists is a strategic priority for the ACC," said Neal Kovach, MBA, vice president of Global Innovation and Clinical Transformation at the ACC. "We are excited to work with Lead Medical on this innovative new program developed by cardiologists for cardiologists that will allow for mentorship, sharing of knowledge and building of a solid foundation for advancing cardiovascular research now and into the future."
The program will address areas for improvement and innovation in clinical research based on first-hand experiences and best practices from cardiologists at the some of the highest volume centers in China, with the goal of reaching cardiologists in the early stages of their career.
"I believe the systematic approach to research design, project management and data quality will be extremely valuable to our young cardiologists and will lay a solid foundation for cardiovascular innovation in China and around the world. I expect this program to deliver cutting-edge research worldwide," said Yong Jian Wu, MD, FACC, director of Coronary Heart Disease Center, Fuwai Hospital in Beijing, China.
Jeff Xu, MD, MA, chief executive officer of Lead Medical, said, "We are honored to partner with world-class academic partners in providing research support and access to world-class medical institutions from China to drive innovation in cardiovascular care." Founded in 2015, Lead Medical's suite of products improve clinical data utilization and clinical efficiency in China's cardiology market.
