UnitedHealthcare Extends COVID-19 Telehealth Expansion and Cost Share Waivers

UnitedHealthcare (UHC) has announced that their COVID-19 related telehealth coverage expansion and patient cost share waivers will be extended through Sept. 30, 2020. During this extended period, UHC will continue to waive the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) telehealth originating site requirement, and telehealth visits will be reimbursed at parity with the rate for an in-person visit. UHC stated it will also continue to waive patient cost share requirements for in-network telehealth services until the end of September 2020.

The College strongly encourages practices to follow the local payer rules and termination dates related to telehealth expansion and cost share waivers. Many payers announced their initial deadlines for this summer and could be expiring in the coming days without a new extension.
