Saranas was the winner in the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention category and iPill Dispenser was the winner in the Telehealth and Virtual Visits category of ACC's Third Annual Innovation Challenge.

Saranas aims to improve patient outcomes through early detection and monitoring of internal bleeding complications. The iPill Dispener is a digital health/hardware innovation to improve prescription adherence and safety by reducing opioid diversion and abuse.

A collaboration between the ACC and AngelMD, the virtual pitch competition was held on June 8 and managed by Halo Creative Labs studio in Denver, CO. Preparation for the competition began in January, with the ACC's Future Hub Task Force and AngelMD reviewing applications from a variety of startups and narrowing the competitors down to four finalists for each category.

"As always, the ACC in partnership with AngelMD has delivered an amazing pitch event – this time completely virtually! We featured eight different companies in the startup space that were truly impactful," says Andrew M. Freeman, MD, FACC, co-chair of the Future Hub Task Force of ACC's Health Care Innovation Member Section. He adds, "The program was fun, engaging and most importantly showed the power and the spirit of innovation.

"We love working with the ACC and its members. It's a highlight of our startup pitch competition calendar and every year we discover terrific companies that are going to impact the cardiology space," said Tobin Arthur, CEO of AngelMD.

The judges for the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention category were: David Cho, MD, MBA, FACC; Jacqueline Shreibati, MD, MS, FACC; Thomas M. Maddox, MD, MSc, FACC; and Seth Martin, MD, MHS, FACC.

The judges for the Telehealth and Virtual Visits category were: Regina Druz, MD, FACC; Fabio Lima, MD, MPH; Akl Fahed, MD, MPH; and James E. Tcheng, MD, FACC.
