Poll Results: Preload With P2Y12 Inhibitor

The results of the recent survey indicate that more than 3/4 of respondents routinely give a P2Y12 inhibitor before primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). A small minority, only 10%, indicated that they almost never preload prior to primary PCI.

These results are concordant with current ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) guidelines. The 2013 American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association STEMI guidelines give a Class 1 indication that a P2Y12 in degree inhibitor should be given as early as possible or at the time of the procedure in patients undergoing primary PCI.1 The 2017 European Society of Cardiology STEMI guidelines recommend that the P2Y12 inhibitor be given before, or, at latest, at the time of, PCI.2
