ACC’s Emerging Advocates

Meet the inaugural class of Emerging Advocates, 15 ACC members getting an immersive education on advocating for cardiovascular clinicians and their patients. Now in the second year of the program cycle, each Emerging Advocate is planning and implementing a grassroots advocacy project of their own, working with their local ACC chapter and medical sections to have a resounding impact. The projects span from graduate medical education funding to medical malpractice research to quality reporting measures. Over the past year, the Emerging Advocates have completed numerous practice visits, developed plans to engage local ACC Chapters in state legislature, and created education materials to involve more membership in ACC’s advocacy efforts. Look out for the Emerging Advocates’ breakout session, “Advocacy 101,” at ACC’s 2016 Legislative Conference, preparing first-time attendees for a successful visit to Capitol Hill.
