Larry Allen, MD, FACC, Moderator

Dr. Allen is the Associate Division Head for Clinical Affairs in Cardiology, Medical Director of Advanced Heart Failure, Co-Director of the Colorado Program for Patient Centered Decisions, and holds the Kenneth Poirier Chair in Medicine for the Division of Cardiology at the University of Colorado. Dr. Allen's interests include improving our ability to anticipate progression into end-stage heart failure and then helping patients make tough choices regarding invasive therapies and palliative care options.

Ellen Peters, PhD, is the Philip H. Knight Chair and Professor in the School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Oregon. She studies the basic building blocks of human judgment and decision making and their links with effective communication techniques. She has worked extensively with federal agencies to advance decision and communication sciences in health and health policy, including as Chair of FDA's Risk Communication Advisory Committee, consultant to FDA's Tobacco Products Scientific Advisory Committee, and member of the NAS committee on the Science of Science Communication.

Brian J. Zikmund-Fisher, PhD, is Associate Professor of Health Behavior and Health Education, Research Associate Professor of Internal Medicine, and Associate Director of the Center for Bioethics and Social Sciences in Medicine at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Trained in decision psychology and behavioral economics, he designs and evaluates methods of making health data more intuitively meaningful, studies the impact of people's consistent preferences for more versus less health care on over- and underutilization of care, and explores the power of narratives in health communications. He was recently named as incoming Editor-in-Chief (as of January 2021) for the journals Medical Decision Making and Medical Decision Making: Policy & Practice.

Neil J. Stone, MD, MACP, FACC, FAHA, is the Bonow Professor of Medicine in Preventive Cardiology at the Feinberg School of Medicine of Northwestern University. He heads a special clinic for the diagnosis and management of lipid-related disorders that was begun in 1974. In 2018, he received the Joseph Stokes, III, MD Award from the American Society for Preventive Cardiology (ASPC) for his achievements in preventive cardiology. He is most known for his work on national guidelines. He was Chair of the 2013 ACC/AHA Cholesterol guidelines and Vice-Chair of the 2018 AHA-ACC-MultiSociety Cholesterol guidelines.
