Coalition Addresses Medicare Committee on PAD Interventions
In the Peripheral Matters Column in a recent issue of CardioSource WorldNews: Interventions, Mehdi H. Shishehbor, DO, MPH, PhD, FACC; Herbert D. Aronow, MD, MPH, FACC; and Michael R. Jaff, DO, FACC, members of ACC’s Peripheral Vascular Disease Section Leadership Council, explain that a coalition of seven organizations, including the ACC, met with the Medicare Evidence Development and Coverage Advisory Committee panel on interventions related to peripheral artery disease (PAD) last summer, and the plans moving forward as a result of this effort. “The coalition looks forward to direct engagement with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to determine the best treatment options for patients with PAD. Ultimately, we must reduce the burden of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality associated with PAD and eliminate unnecessary amputations and health related consequences of PAD and critical limb ischemia,” they note.
