In an article recently published in JACC, Anthony P. Carnicelli, MD, FACC, et al., note the need for cardiologists focused on critical care, the skills required to be a contemporary critical care cardiology specialist and example curriculum that could provide a new pathway for trainees to obtain the necessary skills to work in this rapidly growing subspeciality. "An innovative [advanced heart failure (HF) and transplant cardiology] training pathway enriched with focused [critical care] experiences is feasible and offers distinct advantages to institutions, patients and trainees," the authors state.
