JACC: Heart Failure Manuscript Explores COVID-19 and Heart Failure Link
A newly accepted JACC: Heart Failure manuscript addresses a possible missing link between COVID-19 illness and heart failure and the various concerns heart failure specialists face when treating COVID-19 patients.
Authors Mandeep R. Mehra, MBBS, FACC, and Frank Ruschitzka, MD, outline the current evidence informing whether the use of drugs prescribed for comorbidities, such as hypertension and diabetes mellitus, should be continued in these patients who go on to manifest the highest risk for complications with COVID-19.
The authors also examine a possible cardiovascular contribution to lung complications in these patients, whether evidence of cardiogenic contribution to shock exists in advance stage patients and what therapy may be potentially curative.
Suggesting a structured approach to treating patients until more is known, the authors include a clinician reference table. Read the entire paper.
