Secondary use of shared data may be an important adjunctive resource for Fellow in Training and Early Career investigators to complement primary data generation, as they are believed to be at the forefront of shared data consumption, according to a Fellows in Training/Early Career column published April 30 in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Although the overall data sharing process has previously been reviewed, Cian P. McCarthy, MB BCh, and Muthiah Vaduganathan, MD, provide a more practical approach to accessing and exploring these data, highlighting anticipated barriers and potential solutions to successful data consumption by Fellow in Training and Early Career investigators.

In a response to the column, Mark A. Hlatky, MD, comments that “there are many important questions that can be addressed by analyzing secondary datasets shared by other researchers.” He adds, “The availability of these data can be a great opportunity for Fellows in Training to enhance their research skills, as well as to advance the field.” Read more.
