In a new Leadership Page published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, ACC President Richard J. Kovacs, MD, FACC, reflects on ACC.19; the new Primary Prevention Guideline; and his mother, Elizabeth M. Kovacs, who passed away in 2018 at the age of 99. Kovacs writes that his mother lived a long life completely free of cardiovascular events and "exemplified the primary prevention guideline." He discusses how she provided him with examples to some of the guideline's main subject areas – physical activity, diet and shared decision-making – that he has used with his patients for many years and will continue to use as the College implements this new guideline.
