About the CV Team Chapter Representatives
Margaret Barnett, NP, FACC
Co-Chair, CV Team Chapter Representatives
Mandi Benton, NP, AACC
Co-Chair, CV Team Chapter Representatives
The ACC has prioritized team-based care, and part of the mission is to support the professional needs of the entire cardiovascular care team. The CV Team Chapter Representatives (CVTCR) are elected or appointed by their respective chapters. The CV Team Chapter Representatives represent the diverse non-physician cardiovascular professions that constitute the American College of Cardiology Cardiovascular Team. Currently, the ACC CV Team includes professionals whose practice focus with cardiovascular disease: nurses, advanced practice nurses, pharmacists, PAs, cardiovascular technicians, exercise physiologists, occupational and physical therapists, behavioral therapists, genetic counselors, dietitians, and clinical social workers.
Role of the CV Team Chapter Representative
Membership and recruitment at the Chapter level
- Lead CV team member recruitment and retention efforts in strong collaboration with the ACC Chapter Governor and Chapter Executive.
- Promote ACC cardiovascular team membership opportunities (CV Team, Associate of ACC, Fellow of ACC, Student) to non-members.
Communication with CV Team Chapter membership
- Provide regular ongoing communication to Chapter CV Team members via emails, newsletters, and meetings to maintain an engaged CV Team community at the Chapter level.
- Connect with members, including mentorship, to identify CV Team strengths, concerns and challenges within the various cardiovascular fields.
Leadership and engagement activities
- Provide ongoing dialogue regarding the ACC Strategic Goals pertinent to the CV Team members.
- Participate in CV Team Section activities and initiatives and promote to CV Team members within the Chapter.
Advocacy related to CV Team membership
- Facilitate the ACC Chapter leadership awareness of legislative issues pertinent to the CV Team.
- Participate in ACC legislative conferences and local Chapter legislative initiatives.
How to Become More Involved
There are many opportunities for CV Team members to become more involved and stay engaged within ACC at the chapter and national level across their professional career.
- Participate in chapter meetings, events and activities
- Join a CV Team Section Work Group (APRN, Advocacy, Communications, Education, PAs, Pharmacists, SHD)
- Apply to serve on an ACC Committee or Council
- ACC Member Sections are a great place to find ACC members with similar interests, and their work groups provide opportunities to get involved.
- Micro-volunteering - The micro-volunteering program is designed to connect ACC members with opportunities throughout the College. It's ideal for first time volunteers or those who have limited time to commit.
- Participate in ACC related presentations, publications and research
- Attend ACC meetings and educational programs
Mission Statement
CV Team State Liaisons serve as local leaders for the ACC Cardiovascular Team Community in their home state. Working under the guidance of the Cardiovascular Team Section Leadership Council, CV Team State Liaisons promote membership to non-members and work closely with their Chapter Governor and Executive to identify opportunities for expanding Cardiovascular Team member's participation and roles within the chapter. The CV Team State Liaisons Committee serves as a conduit for identifying the next generation of leaders – within ACC National and the Cardiovascular Team Section.
CV Team State Liaison: Roles and Responsibilities
- Serves as a leader for non-physician cardiovascular health care professional members locally and encourage teamship in all chapter activities.
- Promotes membership opportunities (CV Team, Associate of the ACC, CV Team Student) to nonmembers their state. Liaisons should set an obtainable goal to personally recruit new CVT members, to provide 2 or more ACC sponsored CVT events each year in their state, and to hold themselves accountable for their goals. Use of the recruitment toolbox is strongly encouraged.
- Communicates (at least) bi-monthly, with the Chapter Governor and Chapter Executive – to discuss Chapter plans as they pertain to the CV Team Member engagement (annual chapter meeting, educational programs, and networking opportunities) and lead recruitment and retention efforts.
- Advocates for CV Team-specific benefits at the chapter level. Examples may include:
- Advocate for reduced chapter meeting registration fees for CV Team members.
- Advocate for the addition of CV Team representatives to their State Chapter council, board and committees.
- Encourage your chapter to plan/host a reception/recruitment event for CV Team Members during your annual chapter meeting.
- Advocate for the inclusion of CE credits for your annual chapter meeting (if they are not already offered).
- Responsible for communicating state advocacy issues that impact the practice of CV Team Members in your state. Raise advocacy issues to your Governor, Chapter Executive and to the CVT Advocacy Committee.
- Coordinates communication with the CV Team members within the state. Communication should include quarterly welcome emails to new members; quarterly update/renewal emails to established members; and quarterly "re-join" communications to members who have not renewed their membership with the College. Communication templates and contact lists to be provided by the College.
- Participates in at least 75% of CV Team State Liaison Committee conference calls. Calls take place on a monthly basis.
- Attends the annual CV Team State Liaisons Meetings held during the ACC's Annual Scientific Session.
- Serves as the chair of the CV Team State Liaison Selection Committee by identifying one or more candidates to run for the CV Team State Liaison-Elect position and assisting/informing candidates about the election process.
CVT State Liaison: Term of Service & Time Requirements
- The term is 3-years and follows the 3-year Governor Appointment cycle for your state.
- CV Team State Liaison Committee members must remain active and contribute at the chapter-level. This will involve an ongoing commitment of time. CV Team State Liaison Committee members, who are not active, will not be eligible to receive benefits.
- Should a Liaison need to decline from participating at any time, it is expected that at least one (1) months' notice be provided to ACC Staff and that the current Liaison help identify and recruit their replacement.
- State governors will be asked for their input when new CV Team State Liaisons Committee members are selected.
