Marvin A. Konstam, MD, FACC, has been selected to receive the Heart Failure Society of America’s (HFSA) 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award, which acknowledges a lifetime body of work by an individual who has made significant contributions to the field of heart failure. Konstam will be presented the award at HFSA’s Annual Scientific Meeting this September.

As an internationally recognized pioneer and expert in heart failure — as well as past chair of ACC’s Academic Section, member of ACC’s Cardiovascular Management Section Council and member of ACC’s Health Affairs Committee — the award honors Konstam’s career in scholarship, investigation, teaching and leadership.

Konstam is a professor of medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine and chief physician executive of the CardioVascular Center at Tufts Medical Center. His main areas of expertise include ventricular remodeling, novel pharmaceutical and device treatment, and strategies for improving quality of care. Konstam has not only provided leadership for numerous clinical trials but has also published more than 300 articles and 35 books, monographs and chapters.

In addition to being past president of the HFSA, Konstam has also served on the Heart Failure Guideline panels of the ACC and American Heart Association, as a member of the Food and Drug Administration’s Cardiovascular and Renal Advisory Panel, as a senior advisor for Cardiovascular Diseases at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, and on the Medicare Evidence Development and Coverage Advisory Committee of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
