CVD to CCEP Alternative Training Pathway Pilot Program Application is Open
The ACC and Heart Rhythm Society have developed a pilot program that will introduce a tailored, competency-based cardiovascular disease (CVD) and clinical cardiac electrophysiology (CCEP) curriculum during the third year of CVD training. This training pathway would allow select trainees to begin their CCEP training during the third year of CVD fellowship with rotations during the third year counting both towards CVD and CCEP. This training pathway has been approved by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). Participants in this program will meet all COCATS and CCEP training requirements and will be eligible for the ABIM CVD and CCEP certification examinations after their third and fourth years of training, respectively. Additional details can be found in the program's FAQ and proposal.
This training track is only available to institutions that have both CVD and CCEP programs and are in good standing with the ACGME. Trainees will not be allowed to change institutions in order to participate in this pilot program. Programs selected to participate may choose one trainee per year to participate in this pilot and must adhere to all pilot and ACGME requirements. Interested programs are encouraged to complete the online application by April 11, 2022. Twenty programs that meet all requirements will be randomly selected to participate in this pilot program and will be notified on April 18th, 2022.
