ACC’s Young Scholars Attend Event at Tulane

On June 19, ACC's Young Scholars Program students visited Tulane University School of Medicine to get a first-hand glimpse of a day in the life of a cardiologist.

Robert C. Hendel, MD, FACC, chief of cardiology at Tulane, welcomed 20 students for a day-long site visit as they gained a greater understanding of the specialty of cardiovascular disease.

Participants observed interventional cardiology procedures in the cardiac catheterization labs, watched stress tests, reviewed noninvasive tests, toured the outpatient clinic and networked with cardiology trainees.

ACC's Young Scholars Program launched during ACC.19 in New Orleans, LA, where students were able to witness groundbreaking results of late-breaking clinical trials, observe young scientists report on their own research, explore exhibits, attend lectures and network.

Following ACC.19, the year-long program curriculum includes online webinars, periodic meetings with their faculty mentor, a chance to be part of one of their mentor's research projects, and opportunities for shadowing to observe the clinical world of cardiology.
