Suzanne Oparil

Birmingham, AL2024 Lifetime Achievement
Dr. Oparil has been a leading figure in cell development, integrated biology, vascular biology and hypertension. A public health leader, her lifetime of service and decades of dedication to the College have driven forward innovative and impactful medical education programs and guidelines on the treatment of hypertension.
Herman Taylor Jr.
MD, FACC
Atlanta, GA2024 Pamela S. Douglas Award for Diversity and Inclusion
Dr. Taylor has played a major role in advancing health equity, diversity and inclusion through science and direct action in the field. An outstanding clinician and researcher, Dr. Taylor is the founding director and PI of the Jackson Heart Study, through which he established the world's foremost repository of multilayered data on African American heart health. A master educator and frequent keynote speaker, Dr. Taylor currently leads the Cardiovascular Research Institute at the Morehouse School of Medicine where he is mentoring the next generation of physician-scientists.
Emily S. Lau
MD, FACC
Boston, MA2024 Douglas P. Zipes Distinguished Young Scientist
Dr. Lau has made significant contributions to the field of women's cardiovascular disease, with work centered on how biologic sex differences contribute to the pathogenesis of CVD in women, with a specific focus on immunometabolic metabolic mechanisms predisposing to CVD and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. She is deeply committed to engagement, mentorship and active advocacy for trainees and women in cardiology.
Andrea Price

Andrea has made an undeniable impact on the College. From her active and longstanding involvement in a myriad of committees and initiatives, including the ACC Indiana Chapter, to chairing the Cardiovascular Team Member Section, serving as an articulate and effective voice for one of the largest constituencies in the ACC. She has championed professional leadership development while bringing together her clinical expertise, her work in data registry, and her experience in team-based care at each unique experience.
Sandra Lewis
MD, FACC
Portland, OR2024 Distinguished Fellow
Dr. Lewis's highly regarded career and practice, along with her contributions to College-wide initiatives and committees, cement her as the seasoned leader that many young cardiologists aspire to become. From chairing the Women in Cardiology Member Section and the ACC Political Action Committee (HeartPAC), to the establishment of the Sandra J. Lewis Mid-Career Leadership Program, her impact on the ACC and the cardiovascular profession is immeasurable and inspiring.
Monica Acevedo
MD, FACC
Santiago, Chile2024 International Service
Through her commendable dedication to cardiovascular prevention, diagnosis and treatment on a global scale, Dr. Acevedo has helped lead and support high-impact campaigns – like the Lancet Commission on Women's Heart Disease – to improve CVD care outcomes in South America, notably in her native Chile. She has held six executive positions in cardiovascular societies, foundations and the Chilean government, and has delivered more than 230 lectures at local and international venues.
Robert M. Califf
MD, MACC
Silver Spring, MD2024 Presidential Citation
Dr. Califf is an accomplished cardiologist, researcher and clinical trials expert with an unwavering commitment to promoting and protecting public health, and reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease. He is currently serving his second appointment as Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and has a long and impressive history of prioritizing science and evidence-based policymaking in the best interests of patients and the public. She has participated in several high-impact publications and holds expertise in mechanisms, outcomes and treatment strategies for ischemic heart disease in women.
Thomas Marwick

Dr. Marvick's uplifting personality, even in the briefest of interactions, and his extensive knowledge in the field of cardiac imaging solidify him as a highly regarded mentor to many. Elizabeth McNally

Dr. McNally's seminal contributions to our understanding of the genetic underpinnings of myopathic disorders have paved the way for innovative therapies for muscular dystrophy and various cardiomyopathies. Her expert leadership is unparallelled, and she has showcased that through her editorial service on cardiovascular journals and involvement in ACC's Member Sections and Committees.
Sumeet Chugh
MD, FACC
Santa Monica, CA2024 Distinguished Scientist (Clinical Domain)
Dr. Sumeet is a world expert in the prediction and prevention of sudden cardiac death. His career soared with the trailblazing Oregon Sudden Unexpected Death Study, the first of its kind in the world to prospectively assess the magnitude of sudden cardiac death in the community. Since then, Dr. Sumeet has cemented his position as a leading expert and inspirational role model for aspiring cardiac researchers. He has authored more than 250 papers in his field and his work has been cited more than 90,000 times in the medical literature.
Michelle Albert
MD, MPH, FACC
Hillsborough, CA2024 Distinguished Scientist (Translational Domain)
Dr. Albert's trailblazing work building understanding of the social and biological pathways that link adversity to health has helped to demonstrate how chronic stress due to institutional, behavioral and socio-environmental factors result in inflammation, thrombosis and cardiovascular morbidity, especially in vulnerable populations. Her remarkable record of research and professional accomplishments have also led her to be the first person in history to serve as president of three prestigious medical societies.
Nitish Badhwar

Dr. Badhwar is a highly sought-after professor at Stanford University, with landmark achievements and contributions to the field of clinical cardiac electrophysiology. His expertise spans supraventricular as well as ventricular arrhythmias, and he has devoted his career to teaching and mentoring the next generation. His novel training techniques have been integrated into training programs worldwide, and he has trained a highly impressive cadre of clinicians who have pursued successful careers, some of them as faculty at numerous high-level institutions around the world.
Payal Kohli

Denver, CO2024 Gifted Educator
Dr. Kohli's passion for educating the public has helped countless patients and families understand evidence-based approaches to preventing and treating heart disease. Additionally, her commitment to disseminating knowledge to clinicians is helping physicians and care team members put the latest science into practice. Among her most notable contributions are her continued participation in the Eagle's Eye View podcast series and coverage of some of the most influential CV conferences in the world in the form of daily recap videos. Additionally, she has served on the ACC/ABTM Board Question Writing Committee and the ACC Self-Assessment Program (ACCSAP).
Peter Libby
MD, FACC
Boston, MA2024 Valentin Fuster Award for Innovation in Science
A leader in the cardiovascular profession, author, lecturer, and recipient of the Mallinckrodt Professorship of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Libby's impact on cardiology is unmatched. His current major research interest is the role of inflammation in vascular disease – pioneering in assessing inflammation during the life cycle of the atherosclerotic process. He has published extensively in medical journals and has delivered more than 150 major named or keynote lectures around the world.
Claire Duvernoy

With unique and exemplary leadership, Dr. Duvernoy has made a tremendous impact on the ACC. She has served as a leader on a multitude of College programs and committees, including as a chair of the Women in Cardiology Member Section and as Governor of the ACC Michigan Chapter. Since 2022, she serves as National Program Executive Director for Cardiology for the Veterans Health Administration.
Daniel José Piñeiro

Through his exemplary clinical practice in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Dr. Piñeiro epitomizes the principle of health equity, guaranteeing that – from the most influential and well-resourced to the least advantaged and poor – everyone has an equal opportunity to achieve optimal health. From chairing the Assembly of International Governors (AIG) to serving on the ACC Board of Trustees (BOT), Dr. Piñeiro has played a pivotal role in furthering the College's mission. He is currently president of the World Heart Federation (WHF).
M. Eugene Sherman

Dr. Sherman has championed advocating for change through his years of service in support of ACC's advocacy efforts. From chairing and pioneering the establishment of ACC's Political Action Committee (HeartPAC) and Advocacy Steering Committee to participating in ACC's Legislative Conference since its inception. Over four decades he has amassed an exemplary track record on more than 15 ACC committees and a multitude of work groups. His contributions continue to advance the mission of the College across the board.
