Your Tickets to FIT Luncheon & Forum at ACC ’05
Don’t miss the annual FIT Luncheon & Forum
during the 54th Annual Scientific Session! This year’s
luncheon takes place Tuesday, March 8 from noon to
1:45 p.m. This extraordinary program is designed
specifically for FITs with advice from expert faculty on careers
in academic cardiology. Remember to reserve your tickets when
you register for ACC '05, space is limited!
This
program is complimentary, but advance tickets are
required. Tickets ordered through ACC '05 advance
registration may be picked up on site at the registration
area at the Convention Center. Register
today. Tickets may be obtained on site while supplies
last. Otherwise, seats will be available on a standby basis
only at the door.
The
program is supported by a grant from the Bristol-Myers Squibb
Company. Look for more information in the next FIT Newsletter
and in a special mailing coming in early 2005.

An
All-New Session for FITs at ACC ’05 — And Your
Opinion Counts!
Each year, the College offers a special afternoon
session at the Annual Scientific Session, designed exclusively
for FIT members. This year, the Tuesday afternoon
session has a brand-new look. "FITs: What You
Need to Know in Starting a Cardiology Career”
will cover topics like financial management, starting your
own cardiology practice and how the ACC can help you get started.
The
program takes place Tuesday, March 8, from 2 p.m.
to 4:30 p.m., following the FIT Luncheon and Forum.
We
want your feedback. What else do you want to
know about the transition to private practice? Please send

The

Twenty FIT members will receive travel awards up to $1,200
to attend the 54th Annual Scientific Session March 6 –
9 in Orlando, Fla. The College has reserved five of
those awards for interventional cardiology fellows
interested in attending the ACCIS Spotlight Session and other
key programming on interventional cardiology.
Don’t
miss the chance to let the College foot the travel costs for
four days of the best cardiovascular programming available.

In
Search of A Few Good Women
Looking for a professional outlet where you can connect
with other female cardiovascular specialists, work on initiatives
designed to bring more women to the field or find valuable
mentors? Look no further.
The
ACC Women in Cardiology (WIC) Section held its first meeting
in November in New Orleans. Members were briefed by ACC president-elect
Pamela Douglass, M.D., F.A.C.C., and CEO Chris McEntee, and
WIC Committee Chair Mary Norine Walsh, M.D., F.A.C.C., outlined
committee activities.
Carole
Warnes, M.D., F.A.C.C., reported on the Bethesda Conference
#35 Working Group Report: How to Encourage More Women to Choose
a Career in Cardiology. Members made the following activities
a priority:
- Developing
a Visiting Professor Program to encourage medical students
and internal medicine residents to consider cardiology careers

Holding a half-day seminar on Professional Development at
ACC ’06
-
Undertaking an update of the Professional
Life Survey.
An
online “Virtual Mentoring” Web site for women
physician members is also in development with plans for a
December 2004 launch on www.acc.org.
