ACC Cardiology Careers —
The Place to Go for Jobs |
| Update on Shortened Training Program Discussions |
In June Cardiology, FIT committee chair Grace Pei-Wen Chen, M.D., will update members on some of the exciting work being done by the Training Program Initiatives Work Group. The group has conducted surveys and provided analysis and mathematical models developed by Jeff Williams, M.D., to the ACC Cardiology Training and Workforce Committee, the Training Directors’ Symposium and the Heart Rhythm Society. Williams developed mathematical models of the effects of short-tracking on the cardiology workforce in the near future. The TPI Work Group is also following up on issues with shortening training time for general cardiology and subspecialties such as EP, adult congenital heart disease, interventional and imaging cardiology. For more details, read the “Fellows in Training” column in June Cardiology magazine. Write to cardiologyeditor@acc.org to express your thoughts on this important topic. |
| Travel Awards for Legislative Conference |
|
The ACC has made fifteen $1,000 travel awards available to cover airfare, hotel and other expenses for FIT members who want to attend the 2006 ACC Legislative Conference. David Kenigsberg, FIT member of the ACC Advocacy Committee and a clinical cardiac EP fellow at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, Richmond, Va., has this to say —
“The ACC’s 2005 Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C., was an eye-opening experience for me as a Fellow in Training. After spending three days learning about the key health care issues with Congress and lobbying side-by-side with other practicing cardiologists on Capitol Hill, I felt a strong sense of accomplishment. This year’s Legislative Conference takes place Sept. 17-19, 2006. I strongly encourage all FITs to attend. We are the future of cardiology, and Congress needs to hear from us more than ever on issues about imaging, physician reimbursement, quality in practice and medical liability reform.
To apply for the Legislative Conference travel awards, send an email to fitlegaward@acc.org. Award recipients will be announced in late June. Click here to learn more about the 2006 Legislative Conference.
