BOT Motion Benefits Early Career Members

At its December 2006 meeting, the ACC Board of Trustees voted to remove the 18-month waiting period for applying to become an F.A.C.C. for FITs who have completed training, gone into practice and have also passed their CV boards. This step by the BOT enables these new cardiologists to begin the process that will result in their receiving the F.A.C.C. designation, which truly recognizes their professional achievement.

CMS Moving Forward With Physician Quality Reporting Initiative

Beginning on July 1, 2007, physicians who voluntarily participate in the Medicare Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI), formerly the Physician Voluntary Reporting Program (PVRP), will receive a small payment incentive. The implementation of the voluntary program was part of a legislative packaged passed by Congress in December that prevented a 5 percent cut in physician payments this year. Lawmakers have long sought to move physicians into the quality reporting realm as a trade-off for preventing cuts in Medicare payments due to the flawed Medicare physician payment formula. Many details are still not available; however, the March issue of Cardiology will carry additional information.

Taking the CV Boards—A Story

In March Cardiology, James Beckerman , M.D., writes about his recent experience with taking the CV Boards and expresses frustrations that were apparently felt by him and many others. Look for “Reflections on Cardiology Boards” in the upcoming issue.
