Committee Positions open to Cardiac Care Associates in 2010

ACCF/AHA Task Force on Performance Measures – 0255000 – One (1) open CCA position.
The task force shall develop and promulgate performance measures for the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association and serve as a source of expertise on performance measurement for the two organizations. To achieve this goal, the task force will undertake the following activities:

1. Specify the desirable attributes of performance measures including, but not limited to, measures of structures of care, processes of care, health outcomes, and efficiency;

2. Develop statements of principles to guide the development, implementation, revision, and reporting of performance measures;

3. Specify an explicit process for the development and maintenance of performance measures that are integrated with the development of ACC/AHA clinical practice guidelines;

4. Partner with other organizations as appropriate in the necessary development, maintenance, and field testing of performance measures in high-priority clinical areas;

5. As necessary, review and comment on measures developed by other organizations that are relevant to the guidelines, scientific statements and expert consensus documents of the ACC and AHA;

6. As necessary, formulate an educational strategy about performance measurement; and

7. Serve as a source of expertise and advice to the ACC and AHA regarding performance measurement.


ACCF/AHA Task Force on Practice Guidelines – 0262000 – One (1) open CCA position.

This task force shall define strategies for diagnosis and optimal management of cardiovascular disease, including the role of noninvasive and invasive procedures.

The task force shall address, when appropriate, the contributions, uniqueness, sensitivity, specificity, indications and contraindications, and cost effectiveness of diagnostic and therapeutic modalities.

The task force shall include a chair, vice-chair, and ten members, five representing AHA and five representing ACC. One ACC representative and one AHA representative shall be a nurse. The Performance measure Task Force chair (or a designee) shall be invited to serve as an ex officio member and the Guideline Task Force chair will have a reciprocal relationship on the Performance Measure Task Force.

Members shall serve a maximum of five years in each position with the original term being three years and the possibility of being reappointed for an additional two years. The chair and vice-chair shall serve a maximum of three years in the leadership positions with vice-chair automatically becoming chair at the end of the chair's term.

The Task Force may be represented on a variety of other task forces and committees, as appropriate. The task force may select ad hoc members as needed after approval by the presidents of both organizations. Expenses of the task force and staffing shall be shared equally by the two organizations.

Recommendations are forwarded by the task force chair to the president of each organization.

Time commitment/Method of communication: 2 full-day stand-alone meetings a year (off cycle from ACC and AHA Sessions); conference calls as needed to resolve issues; Chair and Vice-Chair meet monthly via conf call with ACC and AHA staff; periodic review of guidelines and other clinical documents; opportunity to play liaison role between Task Force and Writing Committee for a particular guideline.

Cardiovascular Team Council – 0366000 – Three (3) open CCA positions.
The mission of the Cardiovascular Team Council is to support the College's mission by providing its cardiac care
team members, including the Cardiac Care Associates (CCA) and other allied cardiovascular team members, with
increased opportunities for engagement and integration in the overarching strategic plan of the American College of Cardiology.

The council will accomplish its mission by identifying and addressing gaps in educational, research, advocacy and career development opportunities for the cardiovascular care team. The primary goal and metric of the integration of these cardiovascular healthcare professionals is to provide the highest quality of patient-centered care.

Cardiovascular Team Council & Section Governance and Meetings

The Cardiovascular Team Council reports to the Board of Trustees. The ACC President appoints the Co-Chairs of the Cardiovascular Team Council.

The Cardiovascular Team Section is governed by the Cardiovascular Team Council. Meetings convene at least once per year at the ACC Annual Scientific Sessions and i2 Summit and will hold quarterly teleconferences. The Section welcomes all members of the Cardiac Care Team.

Cardiovascular Team Council & Section Objectives

  • Improve quality of care
  • Advocate for an increase in educational opportunities for Cardiac Care Associates.
  • Advocate for a team-based approach to cardiovascular care.
  • Strengthen advocacy efforts for cardiovascular specialists.
  • Increase the opportunities for foster team-based care.
  • Enhance opportunities for mentoring and career development


Clinical Electrophysiology and Electrocardiography Committee – 0601000 – One (1) open CCA position.
The committee is charged with consideration of those matters concerning the specialties of cardiovascular electrophysiology, arrhythmias, and electrocardiography. Such matters may include but are not limited to, issues related to optimal diagnosis and treatment, procedures, devices, and third party relationships.

The committee shall include a chair, a co-chair, and twelve members. One member of the committee shall serve as liaison to the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation. One member shall serve as liaison to the American Heart Association Electrocardiography and Arrhythmias Committee. One member will have expertise or involvement in electrocardiography. In addition, the president of the Heart Rhythm Society shall also serve on this committee. The ACC representative to the Joint Review Commission on Education in Cardiovascular Technology (JRC-CVT) shall report orally or in writing on JRC-CVT activities. (Senior members are past presidents who have volunteered to serve on this committee). (Governor members are current governors who are serving on the committee.)

Time commitment/Method of communication: Two-hour, face-to-face meetings, up to twice a year at ACC and/or AHA. Occasional (between zero and two per year) conference calls. Members are asked to respond to occasional requests for advice and review of documents by e-mail.


CVRP Work Group – 0811700 – One (1) open CCA position.


Education Oversight Committee – 0626400 – One (1) open CCA position.
The Education Oversight Committee will oversee and coordinate the development and implementation of the BOT’s overarching and long-term educational strategy, through the integrated, innovative and collaborative efforts of all ACCF education committees.

Specifically, the Education Oversight Committee will:

– Be responsible for an environmental scan of the broader education landscape to better identify new and emerging ‘pearls and pitfalls’ in the provision of education services for our constituents.

– Provide expertise and guidance on best practices and strategies to improve and enhance the College’s current education enterprise.

– Foster collaboration (internal and external) to develop an operational plan for enhancing and extending the College’s education enterprise, including but not limited to clearly defining our constituents and targeting education to their individual needs incorporating previously untapped and innovative strategies (i.e., medical simulation and point-of-care learning) developing easily accessible and integrated deliverables identifying and having authority to approve education partnership opportunities.

– Appoint WGs as necessary to perform targeted activities.

– Establish performance metrics for the ACCF education committees and working groups.

– Evaluate and provide an annual report to the Board of Trustees on the scope, effectiveness, areas for improvement and finances of the overall education enterprise of the College.

Members of the Education Oversight Committee must include:

– Chair of Live Programs

– Chair of Accreditation Committee

– Chairs or Designee from: Annual Scientific Sessions; i2 Summit; Digital Products Management Board (representing digital programs, products, SAPs and Cardiosource); Publications (representing JACC and ACCEL); Nurse Education (may also serve as the CCA representative); and a designee from both the Needs Assessment and Learning Portfolio Working Groups.

– Respective Staff DVP from each of the corresponding operational areas as well as Quality will be ex-officio Members.


Geriatric Cardiology Council – One (1) open CCA position.

Governance Committee – 0492000 – One (1) open CCA position.
The Governance Committee is responsible for ongoing review and recommendations to the Board of Trustees to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the Board and other governance structures. The Governance Committee also provides guidance to the BOT on changes to the College's governance structures that the Committee believes would benefit the College and its membership.

The Committee focuses on the following areas, with specific duties dependent on Board needs at any specific
time, as well as evolving practice:

– Structure of boards, committees, and councils

– Board and committee effectiveness

– Conflict of interests with societies and industry

– Code of ethics and violations to the code

– Compensation and honoraria

– Procedures for nominating committee

– Recruitment of candidates for Trustees and Officers

– Bylaws amendments

The Governance Committee shall include a Chair and representatives from Board of Trustees (2) (includes Governance Committee Chair), Board of Governors (2) , Nominating Committee (2), Immediate Past-President -
three-times removed (1), Compensation Committee (1), Ethics and Discipline Committee (1), Budget, Finance
and Investment Committee (1), and Cardiovascular Team Council (1)


Live Programs Committee – 0626500 – One (1) open CCA position.
The Live Programs Committee will select and oversee ACCF live educational programs held at ACC headquarters and other locations and also review and select co-sponsored programs.


Nurse Education Committee – 0626020 – Five (5) open CCA positions.
The Nurse Education Committee (NEC) reports directly to the Education Oversight Committee and is the provider
unit that is responsible for coordinating all aspects of continuing nursing education sponsored by the American College of Cardiology Foundation. The Nurse Education Committee includes representatives from all constituents of the Cardiac Care Associates (CCA) (nurses, physician assistants and clinical pharmacists) in order to provide coordination and development of non-CE education for the non-nurse CCA's. The Chair of the Committee serves as a member of the Accreditation Committee.

Duties are:

a) Review all ACCF continuing nursing education activities and assure that the College remains in compliance with American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) accreditation requirements;

b) Assure that a qualified Nurse Planner - as defined by the ANCC - actively participates in the development, delivery, and evaluation of all continuing education activities for nurses;

c) Establish and monitor processes to assure compliance with ANCC operational requirements;

d) Provide leadership to, and content expertise for, the continuous development, maintenance and adherence to the Scope and Standards of Practice for Nursing Professional Development (ANA, 2000);

e) Guide the collection of and review needs assessment information, then suggest programming for nurses, physician assistants and clinical pharmacists that is responsive to these data; and

f) Develop and conduct a comprehensive evaluation of CNE-credited activities. Assess and integrate the ACCF's overall program of continuing medical education as appropriate, for nurses, physician assistants and clinical pharmacists and recommend strategic initiatives to the appropriate committee leadership as it relates to improved cardiovascular education for nurses, physician assistants and clinical pharmacist professionals.
