PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Statement of Need

Fellows in Training (FITs) who are contemplating a future in academic medicine need guidance on the variety of career options available to them. To meet this need, the American College of Cardiology Foundation has developed a program that provides an opportunity for FITs to network and learn from experienced academicians about their field of expertise and the lessons learned along the way.

Overview
Are you considering a career or recently accepted a position in academic cardiovascular medicine? If so, you need to attend the How to Become a Cardiovascular Investigator program. This intimate and interactive program is specifically designed for Fellows in Training who are contemplating a future in academic medicine.

Through plenary sessions, breakouts, networking opportunities and a dinner program, participants will have the opportunity to interact with the leading experts in the field. Renowned cardiovascular investigators will provide guidance on a variety of topics including the best careers in academic medicine, how to locate the perfect job and the secrets to getting funded.

Learner Objectives
The overall goal of this program is to enhance learners’ competence in their ability to become a cardiovascular investigator.

Upon completion of this program, attendees should be able to —

  • Identify careers in academic cardiovascular medicine
  • Formulate strategies to obtain independent grant funding
  • Develop a plan for integrating an academic career with patient care, research and teaching.

PLEASE NOTE – SYLLABUS MATERIALS WILL BE PROVIDED TO PARTICIPANTS IN PDF FORMAT ONLY. A MEMORY STICK WITH THE PRESENTATIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE TO PARTICIPANTS DURING THE PROGRAM.
