The American College of Cardiology President Patrick T. O’Gara, MD, FACC made the following statement today after the State of the Union address:

"In his State of the Union address, President Obama called on the nation that beat back polio to lead a 'new era of medicine' by announcing the Precision Medicine Initiative. Just this past year, I spoke on a panel to members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee about this very topic and provided the perspective of the clinical cardiovascular community. Incredible advances have already been made in cardiovascular research and I hope initiatives like this will lead to even more important discoveries, treatments, and cures that can be directed to patients more quickly. The promise of precision medicine is within our grasp."
