Professional Bio:
Dr. Ijeoma A. Ekeruo is a cardiac electrophysiologist in her own clinical practice, the Arrhythmia Care Center. Previously, she served in the department of Internal Medicine at the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth where she attained the rank of Associate Professor. She received her B.Sc. in Chemistry from Spelman College and her M.D. from Emory University before moving to Houston where she completed her training in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology at UTHealth. She served as faculty for 8 years, and in addition to providing excellent clinical care in all aspects of cardiac arrhythmia management, also served as Assistant Program director of Internal Medicine and Chair of the Cardiology education committee due to her interests in house staff education. Dr Ekeruo is now owner of her own practice and is excited to be able to explore her clinical interests in atrial fibrillation, conduction abnormalities in structural heart disease, arrhythmias in adult congenital heart disease and understanding and improving long term clinical outcomes in patients with cardiovascular disease and conduction abnormalities. In addition, she has interests in international health, and as part of the Cardiovascular Education Foundation (CVEF), she has helped organize skills sharing and education trips to various countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Dr. Ekeruo holds board certifications in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology from the American Board of Internal Medicine, as well as a board certification in Pediatrics from the American Board of Pediatrics. She is also board certified in adult comprehensive echocardiography by the National Board of Echocardiography, and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society.
