Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Identify knowledge gaps and engage in targeted study to prepare for board certification and ongoing maintenance of certification in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology.
  2. Interpret ECGs and electrophysiologic recordings accurately to identify arrhythmias, conduction disturbances, and pacing artifacts.
  3. Describe the pathophysiology and clinical implications of common and complex arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, and inherited channelopathies.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of diagnostic strategies in electrophysiology, including ambulatory monitoring, signal-averaged ECG, and invasive EP testing.
  5. Evaluate indications, contraindications, and complications of antiarrhythmic drug therapies and their pharmacologic mechanisms.
  6. Assess appropriate use and programming of implantable devices, including pacemakers, ICDs, and cardiac resynchronization therapy.
  7. Interpret device diagnostics and troubleshoot malfunctions such as lead failure, inappropriate shocks, and battery depletion.
  8. Review the principles and outcomes of catheter ablation for various arrhythmias and understand procedural techniques and risks.
  9. Apply current evidence and guideline-directed management to the treatment of syncope, sudden cardiac arrest, and arrhythmia-related heart failure.
  10. Incorporate risk stratification strategies for sudden cardiac death, particularly in patients with structural heart disease or genetic arrhythmia syndromes.
  11. Stay current with emerging technologies and therapies in cardiac electrophysiology, including leadless pacing, subcutaneous ICDs, and AI-assisted arrhythmia detection and apply evidence-based evaluation for their clinical integration.
  12. Integrate systems-based practice principles by incorporating quality improvement, patient safety, cost-effective care, and culturally competent, multidisciplinary collaboration into cardiovascular care delivery.
